FLEX-S700: A Broadcast Live
The FLEX S700 answers a question that camera shaders and broadcast engineers in outside broadcast have dealt with for as long as remote camera control has existed: how do you get a video feed and full Sony shading control from the same camera position, over one wireless link, without compromising either?
Before integrated systems like this existed, the answer was two separate wireless systems. One for video, one for Sony camera control. Two transmitters on the camera rig, two receivers in the truck, two sets of frequencies to coordinate, two sets of batteries to manage. The FLEX S700 puts both on one link. One transmitter on the camera, one receiver in the OB truck, and your vision mixer and shader both receive their respective signals over the same wireless system.
How it carries video and Sony control simultaneously
The transmitter accepts HD-SDI with a loop-through output for the on-camera monitor and HDMI. It transmits the video wirelessly at under 1 millisecond latency on the 5 GHz band while simultaneously carrying Sony legacy camera-control data over the RS422 control interface. Video bandwidth is 40 MHz. Control bandwidth is 25 kHz to 400 kHz. Both channels travel on the same wireless link without interference between them.
At the receiver, 2 x HD-SDI outputs and HDMI deliver the video feed simultaneously to the vision mixer, a confidence monitor, and a recording device if needed, all from one unit. The Sony camera-control data passes through the RS422 control interface to the RCP panel. Your shader adjusts iris, paint, master black, detail, and all shading parameters from the RCP exactly as they would over a cabled return, with no perceptible delay in control response.
Embedded audio travels within the video stream. 128-bit AES encryption protects the Sony camera-control data from interception. TX power is 23 dBm.

Triple-Frequency Operation
The FLEX S700 operates across three frequency bands: 5.1 to 5.9 GHz, 2.4 GHz, and 900 MHz. This is one of its defining characteristics for large-venue broadcast.
Video runs on the 5 GHz band where it has access to maximum bandwidth and lowest interference from the 2.4 GHz devices that populate most venues. The Sony camera-control data can run on 2.4 GHz or drop to 900 MHz when the 2.4 GHz environment becomes congested. At a major sports stadium during an event, 2.4 GHz carries Wi-Fi from the venue's network infrastructure, streaming devices from media teams, Bluetooth from officials and staff, and other production wireless systems. 900 MHz sits in a significantly cleaner part of the spectrum in most broadcast environments. It also penetrates concrete, steel structures, and temporary buildings more effectively than 2.4 GHz, which matters when a camera position is inside a tunnel, behind a hoarding, or on the far side of a steel grandstand from the OB truck.
The ability to move the control channel to 900 MHz while keeping video on 5 GHz means the FLEX S700 can maintain both signals reliably in conditions where a system with fewer frequency options would struggle.
Power And Build
The FLEX S700 runs on V-Mount and Anton Bauer battery plates at 7.5 to 24V. Standard-capacity V-Mount batteries provide full-day operation on both transmitter and receiver. The OLED status display on both units shows signal strength, link quality, active frequencies, and battery level, giving your RF technician or camera operator immediate visibility of link status without additional monitoring equipment.
How WaveHire Handles Your Hire
Every FLEX S700 is tested by a technician on a live HD-SDI signal with full Sony camera-control verification before dispatch. We confirm video quality and latency, verify complete Sony 700 protocol handshake, and test shading response across all control parameters on both frequency bands. All units ship with battery plates, SDI cables, and antennas. You collect from our London facility with same-day collection available, or we arrange delivery to your venue.
If you also need IP network access at the same camera positions alongside video and Sony control, the FLEX Fusion at £225/day carries all three on one link without requiring an additional wireless system per camera position. If your camera positions don't need Sony control at all, the FLEX IP covers video and IP data instead. For Sony control without video, see our CC-S700 in the Wireless Camera Control range, or contact our team to talk through your build.
FAQs - FLEX S700
The FLEX S700 carries ultra-low-latency HD video and Sony camera-control data simultaneously through one integrated wireless system. At the receiver, video is available via HD-SDI and HDMI, while camera-control data connects through the RS422 interface to the RCP panel. The system is designed to maintain reliable video and control operation together for professional broadcast workflows.
The FLEX S700 supports Sony broadcast cameras using the Sony legacy camera-control protocol via the RS422 control interface. It is compatible with Sony RCP panels that use the legacy control standard, supporting workflows built around remote shading and paint control in OB and studio environments.
At major sports venues and large concert sites, 2.4 GHz is under constant pressure from venue Wi-Fi, streaming devices, Bluetooth, and other production wireless. 900 MHz is less congested in most broadcast environments and penetrates concrete and steel structures more effectively. Moving the control channel to 900 MHz maintains reliable Sony shading control when 2.4 GHz conditions deteriorate during a live transmission.
Yes. All Sony camera-control data transmitted by the FLEX S700 is protected with 128-bit AES encryption. This prevents interception of your control commands in shared RF environments and is suitable for productions where content carries commercial rights protection.
Choose the FLEX S700 when your camera positions need wireless video and Sony shading control, and IP network access is either not required or handled by a separate system. If your camera positions also need IP data connectivity, the FLEX Fusion at £225/day adds that capability to the same wireless link.
Rated at 600 metres line-of-sight. In typical OB environments with stadium structures, vehicles, and temporary buildings between transmitter and receiver, reliable range for both video and control sits between 250 and 450 metres, which covers camera-to-truck distances at the majority of broadcast venues.
