FLEX-IP: A Broadcast Live
Outside broadcast has always required two separate things from every camera position: a video feed back to the production chain and a data connection to the production network. For years, those two requirements meant two separate cable runs or two separate wireless systems. The FLEX IP puts both on one link.
One transmitter on the camera carries HD video and IP data simultaneously over a single dual-band wireless system to one receiver in the OB truck. Your vision mixer gets the video feed. Your engineering team gets wireless network access to the camera position. Both in real time, from one pair of units.
How it carries video and data simultaneously
The transmitter accepts an HD-SDI feed from the camera with a loop-through output so your on-camera monitor stays connected. It also accepts HDMI. Both video inputs carry embedded audio within the signal stream. The transmitter encodes and transmits the video wirelessly on the 5.1 to 5.9 GHz band using advanced OFDM RF technology at under 1 millisecond end-to-end latency.
Alongside the video, dual LAN ports (RJ45) on the transmitter carry standard IP network traffic. Any device connected to the transmitter's LAN ports - the camera itself, a control panel, a secondary network switch - communicates with the production network through the same wireless link that carries the video. The IP throughput reaches 150 Mbps, which is sufficient headroom for multiple simultaneous data streams running alongside the video signal.
At the receiver, 2 x HD-SDI outputs and HDMI deliver independent video feeds simultaneously - vision mixer, confidence monitor, and recording deck from one receiver without external splitters. The receiver's dual LAN ports connect to the production network at the truck or gallery end. Audio comes embedded in the video stream. Serial ports (RS232 and RS422) add connectivity for productions using serial-controlled devices at camera positions.

Dual-Band Operation And Range
The FLEX IP operates on 5.1 to 5.9 GHz and 2.4 GHz with selectable 20 or 40 MHz bandwidth. Range reaches up to 600 metres line-of-sight. Advanced OFDM RF technology manages the available spectrum to maintain a stable link in the crowded RF environments that characterise major broadcast venues. At 150 Mbps aggregate throughput, the system handles multiple simultaneous control and data streams without compression or priority issues between the video and data channels.
Security And Encryption
Data encryption is selectable between WEP, WPA, and WPA2. For productions requiring maximum data security, WPA2 protects IP network traffic from interception. This matters in multi-production environments where several companies share the same venue and RF spectrum simultaneously.
Power And Build
The FLEX IP runs on V-Mount and Anton Bauer battery plates at 7.5 to 24V supply voltage. The OLED status display shows signal strength, link status, active frequency, and battery level. Both transmitter and receiver are built to the same physical standard as the FLEX Fusion, with robust housings designed for the conditions of live broadcast production.
How WaveHire Handles Your Hire
Every FLEX IP system is tested by a technician on a live HD-SDI signal with IP data verification before dispatch. We confirm video quality, latency, data throughput, and wireless link stability at rated range. All units ship with V-Mount or Anton Bauer battery plates, SDI cables, and antennas. You collect from our London facility with same-day collection available, or we arrange delivery to your venue or production base.
If you also need Sony camera control alongside video and IP data at the same camera position, the FLEX Fusion at £225/day handles all three on one link - a more cost-effective and operationally simpler solution than running two separate systems. If you need Sony control with video but not IP data, the FLEX S700 is the more direct choice. If your camera position only needs wireless IP data without video, our CC-LINK IP system in the Wireless Camera Control range covers that at a lower cost. For pure wireless video monitoring without IP data, see our Wireless Monitoring range, or contact our team to talk through your build.
FAQs - FLEX IP
Standard wireless video systems carry video only. The FLEX IP carries HD-SDI and HDMI video alongside standard Ethernet IP data on the same wireless link. Your camera position sits on the production network - tally, diagnostics, remote configuration, and file transfer all travel alongside the video without a separate data link.
No. The FLEX IP carries video and IP data but does not include Sony camera-control functionality. If you need wireless Sony shading control alongside video, the FLEX S700 adds Sony legacy protocol support at £200/day. The FLEX Fusion at £225/day combines video, IP data, and Sony control in a single system.
The transmitter accepts HD-SDI with loop-through for a local on-camera monitor and HDMI. The receiver outputs 2 x HD-SDI and HDMI simultaneously, allowing a vision mixer, confidence monitor, and recording device to all receive independent feeds from one receiver without external splitters.
Up to 150 Mbps across the dual LAN ports (RJ45) on both transmitter and receiver. This is sufficient for multiple simultaneous IP streams including tally, diagnostics, remote configuration, and file transfer running in parallel alongside the video signal.
V-Mount and Anton Bauer battery plates with a 7.5 to 24V supply range. Both transmitter and receiver accept the same battery types used across standard broadcast production rigs.
Yes. Each camera position requires its own FLEX IP transmitter-receiver pair. Multiple pairs operate simultaneously on independent frequency channels without interference. Your RF coordinator plans the frequency allocation across all positions as part of the wider production wireless strategy.
