VITA Lite Receiver: A Wireless Monitoring

The Vita Lite Receiver is the piece you add to a wireless monitoring setup each time another person needs their own live feed from the camera. The director has a feed. The focus puller needs one too. The client asks for a screen in their room. Each of those requirements is one Vita Lite Receiver at £80/day, paired to the transmitter already on the camera.

This is how wireless monitoring builds in practice on most productions. You start with a complete system for the primary monitoring point, then scale outward with individual receivers as the production's needs become clear during prep or even during the shoot itself. One transmitter feeds multiple Vita Lite Receivers simultaneously, so there is no additional load on the transmitter or any reduction in signal quality to existing receivers when you add another.

How the Vita Lite Receiver works

The receiver picks up the wireless video feed from a paired VITA transmitter on 5.1 to 5.9 GHz using OFDM modulation. It outputs the signal via HD-SDI (3G) and HDMI simultaneously to your monitor. Both outputs are active at the same time, so you can feed two displays from one receiver if your monitoring point requires it.

Camera metadata passes through from the transmitter and appears on compatible monitors that display this information. Record-trigger commands also pass through, so a focus puller or DIT watching their Vita Lite Receiver can initiate a record command on the camera if they have that role on the production.

The OLED status display on the receiver confirms link quality, signal strength, and battery level. This matters when the receiver is on a focus puller's cart or clamped to a monitor stand in a position where the operator cannot easily check a separate status device.

Internal Antenna Design

The Vita Lite Receiver uses internal antennas rather than the external RP-SMA antennas on the transmitter and the VITA PRO receiver. Nothing protrudes from the unit. There is nothing to snag on a crowded monitor cart, bend in a tight on-set space, or knock out of position when the receiver is being carried or repositioned between setups.

The practical consequence of internal antennas is a slightly reduced effective range compared to an external antenna receiver. The Vita Lite Receiver is designed for use within the transmitter's coverage area, not at the outer limits of it. For the monitoring distances involved in standard studio and location work, internal antennas perform entirely adequately, and the convenience and durability advantages are clear.

Build

Size, Weight, And Practicality

The receiver measures 150 x 92 x 23 mm and weighs 240 grams. It is one of the lightest professional wireless video receivers available at this specification level. It sits on a cold shoe mount, clamps to a monitor stand arm, rests on a shelf, or gets carried in a jacket pocket between setups.

Supply voltage is 7.5 to 24V. Operating temperature is minus 5 to 40 degrees Celsius. At 240 grams with no protruding antennas, a focus puller can carry this on a handheld monitor without the receiver adding fatigue to a long shooting day.

Getting started

How WaveHire Handles Your Hire

Every Vita Lite Receiver is tested for signal lock, output quality on both HD-SDI and HDMI outputs, and OLED display functionality before dispatch. Units ship with power cable. You collect from our London facility with same-day collection available, or we arrange delivery.

If you need a transmitter to pair with this receiver, the Vita Transmitter at £50/day is the appropriate individual component. For a complete TX and RX kit, the Vita Lite System at £90/day is the more cost-effective choice. For longer range and enhanced multi-antenna reception, see the VITA PRO System, or contact our team to talk through your build.

Questions

FAQs - Vita Lite Receiver

The Vita Lite Receiver pairs with any VITA series transmitter including the standalone Vita Transmitter and the transmitters included in the Vita Lite System and VITA PRO System. All VITA transmitters and receivers are cross-compatible across the range.

Internal antennas make the receiver more compact and durable for on-set use. Nothing protrudes to snag on monitor carts, bend in tight spaces, or break during handling. For the monitoring distances involved in standard production use, internal antennas perform well within the transmitter's coverage area.

Yes. This is the standard multi-person monitoring configuration. One transmitter sends the same wireless feed to multiple receivers simultaneously, each at a separate monitoring point, without any reduction in video quality or link stability to the existing receivers when a new one is added.

Yes. Camera metadata and timecode pass through from the transmitter and are available at the receiver output, appearing on any monitor or recording device that processes this information embedded in the video signal.

The VITA PRO receiver has external antennas for extended range, 2 x HD-SDI outputs plus HDMI, and a 550-gram form factor. The Vita Lite Receiver has internal antennas, 1 x HD-SDI plus HDMI, and a 240-gram compact body. For most monitoring distances and single-output requirements, the Vita Lite Receiver is the practical choice.

The receiver accepts 7.5 to 24V DC. A power cable is included in every hire. It can run from standard broadcast power sources including small battery packs, hot shoe battery adapters, and mains DC supplies. No proprietary power solution is required.
