Two Wireless Monitoring Systems, Similar Purpose
Both the VITA PRO System and the Teradek Bolt 6 LT 1500 are designed to do one core job: deliver a high-quality, low-latency HD video signal from a camera to a monitor wirelessly, with no perceptible delay and no visible compression artefacts. Both sit in the sub-1 ms latency category. Both operate in the 5 GHz frequency region. Both have earned their reputations on professional productions.
A Practical Difference
The practical differences between them are real, and they become relevant at the specification level once you consider the specific demands of your production: how far the camera will be from the monitoring position, how many monitoring feeds you need to distribute, whether 4K is a priority, and whether you are buying or hiring.
Specs-Based Comparison
This comparison is based on manufacturer-stated specifications and publicly available information. Neither system was assessed on the same location simultaneously, and real-world performance will always vary with the RF environment, antenna placement, and production conditions.

Range: 600 m vs 457 m
The most immediately visible specification difference is rated range. The VITA PRO System is rated to up to 600 m line-of-sight. The Teradek Bolt 6 LT 1500 is rated to up to 457 m, which is 1,500 feet in the imperial measurement Teradek uses.
In practical terms, this 143 m difference matters most on large outdoor productions: stadium sports coverage, live outdoor events, and long-range ENG or documentary work where camera positions are placed well away from the production base. For most drama sets, studio environments, and indoor locations, both systems will operate comfortably within their rated ranges.
Both figures are manufacturer-stated maximums in open, unobstructed conditions. Real-world range depends heavily on antenna placement, the RF environment at the location, physical obstructions, and the presence of competing wireless systems. Neither figure should be treated as a guaranteed working range in a production environment.
What These Products’ Range Means in Practice
On a large UK sports broadcast covering an athletics track or a football pitch, the VITA PRO System’s 600 m rating gives a meaningful additional margin. On a drama set where the DOP’s monitor is 30 m from the camera, both systems are operating well within their comfortable range and the rated maximum becomes an academic distinction.
The production consideration is less about the headline range figure and more about whether the system has sufficient margin for the specific camera-to-monitor distance at the location, including allowance for RF attenuation caused by the environment.
Video Outputs: Understanding What Each System Provides
Both systems carry video outputs on their receivers, but the configuration is different and worth understanding clearly.
The VITA PRO System receiver carries two HD-SDI outputs and one HDMI output, giving three simultaneous monitoring connections from one receiver. The Teradek Bolt 6 LT 1500 receiver carries one SDI output and one HDMI output, giving two simultaneous connections.
The VITA PRO’s additional SDI output is useful where you need three distinct monitoring feeds from a single receiver position without additional distribution hardware, for example feeding a DOP’s monitor, a director’s monitor, and a script supervisor’s screen simultaneously. For setups requiring two feeds, both systems offer a direct solution from the receiver.
If your monitoring setup consistently requires three simultaneous feeds from one receiver, the VITA PRO System’s triple-output configuration is a structural advantage. For two destinations, both systems cover the requirement from the receiver alone.
The 4K Question
The Teradek Bolt 6 LT 1500 supports 4K over HDMI at up to 30fps on the transmitter input. This makes it compatible with 4K HDMI monitoring workflows where the camera outputs 4K over HDMI to the transmitter.
The VITA PRO System operates at HD resolutions up to 1080p. It does not transmit 4K.
For productions shooting in 4K and monitoring in 4K simultaneously, the Bolt 6 LT 1500 has a capability the VITA PRO System does not match. On most productions, however, monitoring in HD is standard practice even when acquiring in 4K, because HD monitoring is sufficient for focus, framing, and exposure assessment.
Ecosystem and Flexibility: The VITA Modular Approach
One of the more distinctive characteristics of the VITA range from WaveHire is the way the system can be assembled in parts. The VITA PRO System is hired as a TX/RX kit, but individual components are also available separately: the Vita Transmitter as a standalone TX unit and the Vita Lite Receiver as a standalone RX unit.
This creates flexible configurations across a multi-camera or multi-monitor production. A second Vita Transmitter can be added to a production already using a VITA PRO kit, providing a second camera-side TX unit that pairs with the receiver link. A Vita Lite Receiver can be added to provide an additional monitoring endpoint at a separate position on set. Confirm specific supported pairing configurations with WaveHire at the time of booking, as compatibility depends on the exact combination of units in use.
The Teradek Bolt 6 LT 1500 also supports multi-receiver configurations, allowing one transmitter to pair with multiple Bolt 6 receivers simultaneously. For productions that already own multiple Bolt 6 units, this is a genuine flexibility advantage within the Bolt 6 ecosystem.
Encryption
The Teradek Bolt 6 LT 1500 uses AES-256 encryption with RSA-1024 key exchange. This is a meaningful specification for productions where the monitoring feed needs to be secured against interception - broadcast journalism, sports coverage of events with commercial rights restrictions, or any production with a confidentiality requirement.
The VITA PRO System’s encryption specification is not published in its standard product documentation. If encryption of the monitoring feed is a firm production requirement, clarify this with WaveHire at the time of booking.
Hire Availability and UK Support
The VITA PRO System is available to hire from WaveHire at £125 per day or £375 per week, excluding VAT. Kits are technician-tested on a live signal before every dispatch, and same-day collection is available from the WaveHire facility in London SW6.
The Teradek Bolt 6 LT 1500 is available to hire from professional broadcast rentals. Renting a Teradek Bolt 6 LT 1500 typically costs around £120 to £255 per day, depending on the kit configuration and rental provider. WaveHire does not currently stock Teradek equipment for hire. For productions that need wireless monitoring on a specific job without a capital outlay, the VITA PRO System is the hireable option with UK-based broadcast support.
You can view the VITA PRO System and the full VITA monitoring range on the equipment pages, check the prices, or contact our team to discuss your production requirements.
Where Each System Has the Advantage
The VITA PRO System is well suited when:
- Camera-to-monitor distance regularly exceeds 457 m and additional range margin is needed
- Three simultaneous output feeds from the receiver are required without a distribution amplifier
- A modular approach is needed - individual Vita Transmitters or Vita Lite Receivers are to be added to the link
- The production is hiring rather than purchasing, with same-day collection from London and UK broadcast support
- HD monitoring resolution is sufficient for the production workflow
The Teradek Bolt 6 LT 1500 is worth considering when:
- 4K monitoring over HDMI is a genuine production requirement
- AES-256 encrypted monitoring transmission is a firm requirement for the content type
- The production is purchasing equipment and integrating into an existing Bolt 6 ecosystem
- The production operates primarily in environments where 457 m range and two receiver outputs cover the requirement
